Before leaving the place the girl's father curses the minister that this place shall remain inhabitant.That stays true totill date because the town is inhabitant still.

  • Founding and Early History

Around 300 years ago, Brahmins travelled from the Pali region to Jaisalmer and settled in Kuldhara Village. The Paliwal Brahmins are well-known for their agricultural and trading ability. The village flourished for generations under their skilled control. However, in the early nineteenth century, faced with high taxes and threats from the dictatorial Diwan of Jaisalmer, Salim Singh, the whole population inexplicably abandoned Kuldhara overnight. Today, the empty village represents its people's resilience and inexplicable migration.

  • The Curse of Kuldhara

According to popular history, the village was a jagir or state in the 1800s under Minister Salim Singh, who was devious in his tax collection methods. The village taxes were already too expensive. In addition, Salim Singh developed feelings for the village chief's lovely daughter and threatened the locals that if they tried to oppose or stand in his way, or if they would not hand over the maiden to him without protest, he would collect even larger taxes on them. To save the lives of the villagers and the honour of his daughter, the chief and the entire village fled overnight, leaving the village abandoned and relocating to a distant location. According to legend, the people cursed the village while leaving, saying that no one would be able to live here in the future!

Kuldhara Village is located approximately 18 kilometres southwest of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. It is a rectangular settlement that is 861 m x 261 m and faces north-south.
