The city of Jaisalmer is located in western Rajasthan in the midst of Thar desert. It is extremely hot, dry and isolated place and it is popularly known as “Golden city”. This place is bestowed with art, architecture, culture, traditions, music and so on.

The town and fort of Jaisalmer was founded by Maharawal Jaisal in the year 1156 AD. The architectures are made of yellow sand and yellow sandstone and that gives a look of yellowish golden to the city and surrounding areas. The Medival aura is seen everywhere in the streets and architectures of the city.

 THINGS TO DO IN JAISALMER:

There are many things can do in Jaisalmer. Before starting a journey, it is important to know and plan the list of things to do in Jaisalmer.

  • JAISALMER FORT:

It is one among the largest fort and most popular landmark in Jaisalmer city. It can be called as living fort where it has hotels, museums, temples, restaurants, shops etc. It also explores rich culture heritage of the royals of the Rajasthan.  It is better to visit the fort and market during day time and at evening time stay at hotel and enjoy the views.

  • FESTIVAL OF JAISALMER:

The Jaisalmer desert festival will take place during the month of February. It is a three-day festival prior to full moon. The main reason for this festival is to showcase the culture and traditions of Rajasthan to all over the world. The guests will witness traditional roots of Rajasthan in various forms.

  • CAPTURE THE BEST SUNSET EVER:

One thing that you cannot afford to miss during evening desert safari could be the spectacular sunset. It is mesmerizing sight to capture and keep in memories forever.

  • JAIN TEMPLES IN JAISALMER:

Jain temples are one of the oldest temple in the city of Jaisalmer. The amount of work and detail is incredible in the temple architecture. It is located inside the Jaisalmer fort and it remains precious ancient literature. 

  • GADISAR LAKE:

The Gadisar lake is one among the most popular Jaisalmer attractions. It is totally a manmade lake and only water source of Jaisalmer. It is must to visit a place during evening in order to witness mesmerizing view of sun setting down with peace. This place is worth for photography.

  • MUSEUM – PUPPET SHOW:

The museum is built to preserve the traditions of the local people. A visit to these museums will provide some valuable knowledge about the past glory of Rajasthan. The museum has variety of medival era objects like articrafts, ancient jewelry, artillery, armor of ruklers etc. 

  • JAISALMER LOCAL BAZAAR:

There are various options available for shopaholics in Rajasthan. This is the best place for handmade products with varieties of decorative items, local handicrafts, puppets, yellow sandstone showpieces, wooden items and ornaments.

  • RAJASTHAN CUISINE:

A trip to Jaisalmer is incomplete without trying delicious dishes from Rajasthan cuisine. It is good to try some of tasty foods like mirchi bada, pyaaj kachori, famous dal bati, churma etc. End your meal with ghotua ladoo which will satisfy your sweet tooth.

  • CAMEL SAFARI:

It is one of the best experience at the desert by riding at the back of a camel. Sit on the back of the camel and get ready to enjoy a bumpy ride under cool atmosphere. Camel safari can be experienced in many ways as one hour, half a day or overnight it depends on what you want. 

  • KULDHARA AN ABANDONED VILLAGE:

Kuldhara is an abandoned village which is located 34 kms away from Jaisalmer city. Once a home to rich paliwal Brahmins, this village was abandoned for centuries by inhabitants because of the atrocities committed by the minister of Jaisalmer, Salim Singh. He liked a girl from this village and that create ruckus among the residents of the village. So they all left over night after cursed the village. It is believed the village remain haunted due to that reason.

  • BEST TIME TO VISIT JAISALMER:

The best time to visit Jaisalmer is between October to march, where the temperature will remain cooler and it will be a perfect time for sightseeing and explore adventure activities in the desert.
Avoid travelling to Jaisalmer during summer. The month from April to June will be hot and it will be tough for the travelers to enjoy the journey. 

 TIPS FOR DESERT SAFARI IN JAISALMER:

  • Carry a cap or hat for a day to avoid sun.
  • Scarf, mask and sunglass is necessary
  • Prefer wearing simple clothes and avoid wearing short or sleeveless dress inoder to avoid skin burns or rashes due to hot climate.
  • Avoid wearing shoes in the desert, as sands may get into your shoes and cause uneasy.
  • Sunscreen or lotion is necessary to keep your skin moisture and protect against sunrays
